Struggling with Apple's Liquid Glass design on your iOS device? You're not alone. While some love the translucent UI elements, others find it distracting and even nauseating. But fear not! There are several ways to customize and reduce the transparency of Liquid Glass to better suit your preferences.
1. Fine-Tune Liquid Glass on iOS 27 and iPadOS 27
The most straightforward way to adjust Liquid Glass is to use the slider in Settings > Appearance > Liquid Glass. This slider allows you to switch between Clear (more transparent) and Tinted (more opaque) modes. Experiment with the slider to find the level of transparency that feels most comfortable for you.
2. Reduce Transparency on iOS and iPadOS 26.1
If you're running iOS 26.1 or iPadOS 26.1, you can still customize Liquid Glass. Go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Liquid Glass and choose between Clear and Tinted. Tinted is recommended for more contrast.
3. Adjust Liquid Glass on macOS 27 Golden Gate
Mac users can also fine-tune Liquid Glass. In System Settings > Appearance, find the Liquid Glass section and adjust the slider to your desired look.
4. Reduce Transparency on All Devices
For a more comprehensive reduction in transparency, enable Reduce Transparency in Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size on iPhones and iPads. On Macs, go to System Settings > Accessibility > Display and turn on the Reduce Transparency switch.
On Apple Watches, open the Watch app on your iPhone and go to My Watch > Accessibility > Reduce Transparency, or enable it directly on the watch.
5. Embrace Dark Mode
Liquid Glass looks better in dark mode, as it hides the design's transparency. Set your device to Dark mode in Settings > Display & Brightness on iPhones and iPads, or in System Settings > Appearance on Macs.
6. Reduce Bright Effects
Starting with iOS 26.4, you can reduce the lighting effects associated with Liquid Glass. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size and turn on Reduce Bright Effects. Apple also offers an alternative in Settings > Accessibility > Motion by enabling Reduce Motion.
7. Customize Your Home Screen
Beyond Liquid Glass, iOS 18 introduces Home screen customization options. Press and hold on the Home screen, tap Edit, and select Customize. Here, you can adjust icon and widget colors, lighting, and size to improve readability.
Experiment with the various customization options, including light and dark modes, icon size, and tint color, to create a visually appealing and functional Home screen.
Remember, the key is to find a balance between aesthetics and functionality. By fine-tuning Liquid Glass and customizing your Home screen, you can create a personalized iOS experience that suits your needs and preferences.
